Accounting software for business and life coaches

Bookie helps business and life coaches manage invoices, expenses, receipts, VAT, income tax reports, multi-currency work, and accountant-ready bookkeeping without spreadsheet chaos. It is built for Malta, with Maltese VAT and income tax built in.

How your paperwork gets into Bookie

  • Create invoices in Bookie, with the right local tax rate suggested as you type.
  • Upload PDFs and images of receipts and invoices; Bookie reads them and recognises the tax treatment applied.
  • Photograph a receipt on your phone.
  • Connect your email inbox so receipts and invoices are picked up automatically (coming soon).

Every document is checked by Bookie and confirmed by you before it is booked.

Accounting events

Complex accounting, simplified into accounting events such as depreciation, disbursements, recharged costs, bad debts, refunds, voids, deferred revenue, prepayments, accrued income and expenses, exchange gains and losses, and irrecoverable VAT. Pick what happened, or let Bookie suggest it.

Returns and financials, always ready

  • Malta VAT return, filled box by box from your books.
  • Malta income tax return figures.
  • Income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement.
  • Estimated income tax bill and social security contributions as you go (coming soon).

Multi-currency

Invoice in one currency, get paid in another, and keep your books in your own currency, with the exchange rate on the invoice date.

Bring your own accountant

Invite your accountant with an email, free for them. You keep things logged; they review and sign off. Bookie works alongside your accountant and is not a replacement for professional advice.

Pricing

Two plans, DIY and Automagic, with tax compliance for Malta as an add-on that works with either plan. The first three months are free, no credit card required, and you can cancel any time.

FAQ

Do I still need an accountant?

Bookie works alongside your accountant, not instead of them. You keep your books in order through the year, and your accountant reviews clean, signed-off records rather than a bag of receipts. Invite them with just an email, at no cost to them. For tax advice and complex situations, your accountant is still the right person to ask.

Which plan do I need?

Both plans give you the same books: invoices, expenses, accounting events, review and sign-off, financial statements and multi-currency. DIY is for doing it all by hand. Automagic adds the AI work: reading your receipts and invoices, the mobile apps, and suggesting the right accounts, tax codes and events for you. If you're VAT registered in Malta, add tax compliance to either plan for your VAT and income tax returns.

Does Bookie file my VAT and income tax returns?

Bookie prepares them, and you or your accountant submit them. Your VAT return is filled box by box from your books, with refunds and bad debt relief adjusted in the right period, and your income tax return figures come from the same records. Each return shows its due date and the steps to file it.

What does Bookie check for me?

When Bookie reads a receipt or invoice, it checks the details as it goes: that the totals and the VAT add up, that a payment matches the right transaction, and that a document can support a VAT claim. Anything it isn't sure of is flagged for you to review, with a short explanation, instead of being guessed. Once nothing is left, you or your accountant sign it off.

Can self-employed people in Malta use Bookie?

Yes. Bookie is built for freelancers, sole traders and small businesses in Malta, with Article 10 and Article 11 VAT registrations, Maltese VAT codes explained in plain words, and Malta's wear-and-tear periods for depreciation.

What countries does Bookie support?

Bookie works for freelancers anywhere, in any currency. Tax compliance, with VAT and income tax returns, is available for Malta today, and we're working on more countries.

Why not QuickBooks or Xero?

They're great general tools, but they don't build Malta's VAT returns in. Xero needs a third-party add-on, and we can't find Malta VAT filing in QuickBooks. In Bookie, your VAT return comes out box by box, the way you file it, and complex accounting is simplified into plain accounting events.

Can Bookie email my invoices to clients?

Not at the moment. Bookie creates your invoices and lets you download a professional PDF to send yourself. Payments you receive are recorded against the invoice, so you always know what's due, paid or overdue.

Can I bring in my existing records?

Yes. You can import your history from a spreadsheet, and on Automagic you can upload past invoices and receipts for Bookie to read.

How does Bookie handle my financial data?

Your data is encrypted and stored securely in the EU. We will never sell it. Any transaction data processed by AI is anonymised before it leaves our core system.

Is Bookie just a vibe-coded AI app?

No. Bookie has been in development for over two and a half years, with a full accounting engine at its core. The calculations are deterministic code, so your figures are always the same. AI is used for specific jobs, like reading receipts and suggesting codes, and anything it isn't sure of is flagged for you rather than guessed. It is led by Jonathan Copperstone, whose background includes Salesforce, fintech product development, insurance SaaS, and self-employed consulting through Toptal.

How long does it take to get set up?

Most people are up and running in under 15 minutes. Create your account, add your business details and start logging your income and expenses.

What if I'm not happy with the product?

Start with 3 months free, no card required, and cancel any time. If you've paid and you're not happy within the first two weeks, we'll refund you in full. If it's been longer, reach out anyway.

You're missing a feature I need. What gives?

There's still plenty to build, and features are landing fast. Tell us what you need: we'll be sharing our roadmap with customers soon so you can help decide what comes next.
